The public newsroom is designed to be readable first — including for dyslexia and low vision.
Type on this site is Atkinson Hyperlegible, commissioned by the Braille Institute. The letters are drawn so I, l, and 1 do not collapse into each other, and so b/d and p/q stay distinct — which helps dyslexic readers and people with low vision.
Body copy is larger than a typical website, with open line height and extra letter spacing. Headlines use the same typeface, not a decorative serif. Long quotes are not set in italics. You can pinch-to-zoom; the site does not lock scale.
Reading settings
The Aa control in the header opens reading settings. They stay on this device:
- Text size — regular, large, or extra large
- Paper — cream page and dark ink, which many dyslexic readers find easier than a dark screen
- High contrast — black, white, and bright gold
- Extra spacing — more room between letters, words, and lines

- High-contrast colors if your system requests more contrast
